Library Use Policy

The SMCC Library requests your cooperation in maintaining an atmosphere conducive to study.

  • Place all litter in the nearest wastebasket.
  • Place recyclable paper in appropriate receptacles.
  • Bags or other belongings left unattended will be turned over to the SMCC Security Office.
  • Library users are prohibited from eating food inside the Library.  Only drinks in non-spill  "sports" type containers are allowed.
  • Destroying or damaging materials, equipment, or software is prohibited. Following is an incomplete list of examples of prohibited actions: 
    • Destruction, mutilation or defacement of any materials
    • Damaging of hardware or equipment
    • Misuse of furniture
    • Intentional introduction of viruses into any
    • Tampering with software 
       
  • Disruption to the study and research of Library users or the interruption of their educational process is prohibited. Following is an incomplete list of examples of prohibited actions:  
    • Creating excessive noise
    • Harassment of others
    • Behavior that disturbs users or staff and interferes with use of the Library.
       
  • Because we have a busy and often crowded library, please keep talking to a minimum, and talk in a low volume. 
  • Group socializing belongs outside the library.
  • The use of cell phones, radios, CD players, or any other equipment that disrupts patrons is prohibited.
  • Special areas are reserved for quiet study only. Ask for directions to these areas at the Circulation Desk or the Reference Desk.
  • Smoking or any other use of tobacco is prohibited within the Library.
  • No animals are allowed within the Library other than those assisting persons with disabilities.
  • Parents or caregivers that bring children into the Library are responsible for monitoring their activities and regulating their behavior. Disruption of Library users by children or minors is prohibited.
  • Unsupervised children - MCCCD regulations state that ... "children [younger than 18] will not be allowed on campus unless participating in an authorized college program or under the supervision of an adult."  Maricopa Governance Online Policy Manual, Section 2.4.10
