Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Interlibrary loan (ILL) is a cooperative service with other libraries in which SMCC Library will borrow materials from other local, regional and national libraries on behalf of a registered user of SMCC Library.
- ILL is available to all students, faculty and staff of SMCC Library.
- Registered members should thoroughly examine and use the materials available at SMCC Library before borrowing materials through ILL.
- Borrowed materials through ILL are held at the Circulation Desk, and you will be notified when materials are received by whichever means you've selected when registering.
- Reference librarians can assist you with finding materials at SMCC Library as well as completing the ILL request form necessary to obtain materials from other libraries.
Borrowing Materials from Other Maricopa Community College Libraries
- The on-line catalog lists the library materials held in all Maricopa Community College District Libraries. If a book title is listed in the catalog, a library user may request the item be transferred to SMCC Library for their use. Click the button, Request Item, log in and place your request. You may monitor the status of a request through the "My Account" feature in the library catalog.
- There is a limit of 5 requests per user at one time. It usually takes between three to five working days for the book to arrive at SMCC.
- SMCC Library users may also request and receive copies of articles from other MCCCD Libraries.
- Reference materials, reserve materials, books in special collections, videotapes, audiotapes and computer software are usually given a status of "non-request" and are not loaned to other colleges.
- There is no charge for this service with other MCCCD Libraries.
- Borrowing materials from other MCCCD Libraries is sometimes called an IDL.
Borrowing Materials from Other Libraries
- If needed materials are not available within the District, a request may be placed using FirstSearch WorldCat, a union catalog of many libraries including an online request process for obtaining materials from these libraries. Currently FirstSearch WorldCat is only available from any SMCC computer.
- For more information about Interlibrary Loan services, see our MCCCD Interlibrary Services FAQ page. To borrow materials from non-MCCCD libraries, you will need to create your own account through this link.
- Obtaining materials, such as books or articles, from sources outside of the District generally takes 2 to 5 weeks depending on the location of the item.
- Sometimes there will be a charge for the service or the copies. However, you can limit your liability for the change by specifying the maximum amount you are willing to pay, from $0.00 or higher.
- For efficiency always check the Library Catalog to see whether we own the material you need before submitting a request. Interlibrary loan request for items available in our library will not be processed.
