The SMCC Library borrows materials for all its users (students, staff, faculty, and community users) from local, regional and national sources.
Intra-District Loans (IDL's)
- IDLs are requests for materials from other MCCCD libraries. The on-line catalog lists the library materials held in all MCCCD Libraries. If a book title in the catalog shows a status of "available" a library user may place a request via the online catalog. A staff member can assist in placing a request. You may also monitor the status of an IDL through the "My Account" feature in the library catalog.
- There is a limit of 5 requests per user at one time. It usually takes between three to five working days for the book to arrive at SMCC.
- SMCC Library users may also request and receive copies of magazine articles from other MCCCD libraries.
- Reference materials, reserve materials, books in special collections, videotapes, audiotapes and computer software are usually given a status of "non-request" and are not loaned to other colleges.
- IDL services are free of charge.
Other Interlibrary Loan Sources
- If needed materials are not available within the District, FirstSearch WorldCat, a national library database, can be accessed to locate materials on a statewide, regional, or national level.
- Obtaining materials from sources outside of the District generally takes 2 to 5 weeks depending on the location of the item.
- Sometimes there will be a charge for the service or the copies.
- Additional information about interlibrary loan can be found here.
