Community Borrowers

Circulation Policies

  1. All community borrowers must acquire a library card in order to check out library materials. There is no cost for the card.
  2. To obtain a community borrower's card, evidence of residence in Maricopa County must be provided by showing a valid State of Arizona picture ID.  A Parental Permission Form must be completed in advance by the parent/legal guardian for borrowers under the age of 18.  Once this completed form is on file in the Library, they will be allowed to borrow library materials.  This also includes in-house usage/viewing of audiovisual materials.  Minors must have their borrowers' cards with them when they use the Library.
  3. Community borrowers may not check out audiovisual hardware (cassette players and/or recorders, calculators, etc.) for use outside of the Library building.
  4. Community borrowers may not check out popular videocassettes or dvd's for "at home" use. However, videos or dvd's may be checked out for viewing within the Library building.
  5. Community borrowers' cards may be renewed each semester.  They should not be discarded at the end of the semester.
  6. A community borrower is responsible for all materials checked out on his or her card.  Checking out materials for other people is not allowed.
  7. For the community borrower's protection the Library should be notified immediately when a lost card is lost.
  8. The community borrower's card may be used at any of the Maricopa Community College Libraries.  Each of the MCCCD libraries has their own policies regarding check-out, overdue fines, and library debts.
  9. The SMCC Library does not charge overdue fines for books or audiocassettes, but replacement and  processing fees will apply if items are lost.

The SMCC Library is open to all community users, however requirements for borrowing materials are outlined in the Circulation policies below.

Young people of all ages from the South Phoenix community may have access to the library materials housed within the Library and to the services that we provide.

All community borrowers, including those under the age of 18, are expected to behave as responsible library users and to conform to the same Library Use Policy that regulates SMCC's students, faculty members, and staff members.
